HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE OIL IN A MAZDA6?
Oil is the lifeblood of your engine, and if you want to make sure that your engine works as it should for as long as it should, it is extremely important to give the lines a regular transfusion. This is especially true for vehicles like the Mazda 6 that are designed for performance and efficiency. Delivering 184 hp while getting up to 35 miles to the gallon is nothing that comes without effort, and if you want your Mazda6 to reach these figures for years to come, it is important to keep the oil fresh.
Knowing how often you should change the oil in your Mazda can be difficult because not all engine oils are the same. There are many who save on quality, and that can only last for a few thousand miles before they need to be changed. When it comes to these subpar, non-brand oils, we do not have a big recommendation because we are not quite sure how they work. We prefer to stick to the good things.

Use SAE 0W-20 engine oil
Mazda original oil is used in your Mazda vehicle. Mazda Original 0W-20 Oil is required to achieve optimum fuel economy.
For maintenance, Mazda recommends Mazda Original Parts and Castrol® (USA only). Best engine oil.
Use only SAE 0W-20 oil “Certified for Gasoline Engines” from the American Petroleum Institute (API).
Oil with this brand symbol complies with current engine and emission protection standards and fuel consumption requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), composed of U.S. and Japanese automotive manufacturers.
The USA and CANADA are excluded.
Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil
Oil tank labels provide important information.
A major contribution of this type of oil to fuel economy is to reduce the amount of fuel required to overcome engine friction.
For maintenance service, Mazda recommends Mazda Original Parts and Castrol® (Mexico only).
(Mexico)
Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil. If SAE 5W-30 engine oil is not available, use SAE 5W-20 engine oil.
The quality designation SM or ILSAC must appear on the label.
Use what you can afford to change frequently when you change it and have it full are more important than “saying that the lab tests show that it could have gone 10,000 miles”.
Although 5w20 is required, the motor runs on any synthetic 0w20, 5w30, 10w30, 10w30, 0w30……….so the weight selection is no problem.
Why 5W20 synthetic oil is superior to conventional engine oil
Synthetic oil provides excellent engine protection. Both come from the earth, but that is all they have in common.
Synthetic oil removes impurities: It is cleaned, distilled and refined. 5W20 Synthetic oil keeps your engine clean to keep it running smoothly.
Prevents Oil Deposits and Sludge: Conventional engine oil collects deposits as it flows through your engine, and sludge forms over time. Taken together, these reduce the life and performance efficiency of your engine.
Reduces wear and tear: The constant contact, high speed and extreme weather conditions take their toll on the engines. 5W20 synthetic engine oil serves as a protective shield to reduce component wear. The 5W20 engine oil is also equipped with durable wear protection that extends engine life.
Better engine flow at low temperatures: Oil settles when your car is stationary for an extended period. Oil starts to flow when you start the ignition, but conventional oil takes longer to flow smoothly into the engine. In cold weather, this process takes longer. 5W20 synthetic oil, on the other hand, flows faster and provides protection when your car starts.

MAZDA6 OIL CHANGE INTERVALS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER
To keep the engine of your Mazda6 running as it should, you should follow the oil change guidelines described in the sedan’s owner’s manual. The manual states that the oil should be changed every 12 months or every 7,500 miles, whichever comes first. The interval is more than twice as long as for vehicles that require an oil change every 3,000 miles, but it comes with some recommendations.
Mazda recommends that all oil changes be done by a technician at an authorized Mazda dealer. This is not only to ensure that the work is done as the manufacturer intended, but also because authorized Mazda dealers like ours here at Holiday Mazda use a certain type of oil.
In a Mazda6, only original Mazda oil is used for the oil change. It is exactly the same oil that is first poured into the engine before it rolls off the belt, and since the engines are built to operate with this oil, it helps the engine to reach its full potential. Only when this form of castor oil is used does the oil change interval remain at 12 months or 7,500 miles. As we mentioned earlier, if you go to a random service center and take the oil you have at hand, it probably will not last for 7,500 miles.
