How to Pick the Best Motor Oil for Toyota Corolla?
To choose the right oil for your vehicle, ask yourself the following questions:
Viscosity ratings:
Oil is identified by its viscosity, which determines its ability to flow. The lower the number, the thinner the oil and the more easily it flows.
Viscosity Selection:
To find out which viscosity to choose for your vehicle (5w-30 or 0w-20), look in your owner’s manual for an oil viscosity chart.
Oil classification codes:
Container label means that the oil meets the current engine protection standard ACEA, API or ILSAC.

Engine oil for Toyota Corolla
Toyota Corolla engine oil
The most obvious decision might be 0w-20. This grade has good specification and it will be a good choice for the most of cases. Toyota recommends this oil grade for its engines to achieve a bit more miles per gallon. The main reason for that is the lower viscosity liquid generates less drag in moving engine parts. The other advantage of this oil is a constant smooth engine running in a wider range of temperatures.
The best matching oil grade along with engine oil manufacturers for Toyota Corolla
There are many diagrams with viscosity and pressures figures to select the optimal engine oil for certain loads. The viscosity of motor oils differs due to the temperature of it and when the oil is meant to be changed only once a year due to bigger mileage intervals it has to withstand all the weather conditions and guarantee high efficiency along with less wear for engines. When you have a generator, so read our review the best oil for Toyota Camry and choose the one.

What to note when selecting a synthetic motor oil for Toyota
How to select the best synthetic motor oil matching all the requirements? Do you face controversial opinions? This guide can help you making the choice. Selecting a synthetic oil for your vehicle requires a certain knowledge background and this guide can help you to choose the best matching oil.
Synthetic oil 0w20
One of the advantages of the synthetic oil is its purity. The oil has less impurities comparing to a regular one. This oil better maintains its features under high temperature, the viscosity lower especially when cold running. Generally this oil is more safe against breakdowns. Keeping this in mind one could decide that a synthetic oil is the only reasonable solution. But regular oil has also its strong points.
You want oil with bigger service intervals. Synthetic oil is more resistant to heavy running conditions. If you tend to prolong changing intervals or even skip an oil change – the synthetic oil can give a better protection to your engine, when it runs with the oil which was due to change a long time ago.
Synthetic oil brands
This good resistance property can be seen if the oil has not been changed after proper time or mileage. If your car is maintained on time this advantage of a synthetic oil is of no use.
Low mileage cars. Synthetic oil is a good choice when an average mileage is below 5,000 – 6,000 a year. It maintains its key characteristics for more than half a year after being used. If you are not intended to change the motor oil less than each 6 month – this oil is for your car.
Synthetic oil filter
Heavy driving conditions. The synthetic oil gives better protection comparing to an regular oil for your engine. This feature is essential in cases like:
- Cold climates. The synthetic oil under low temperatures saves the engine from wear better than the regular one.
- Racing, towing, hauling, off-road driving. Any time you expose the engine to unusual loading e.g. fast acceleration consider the synthetic oil does the its job better.
- Desert and high altitude drive. It causes the higher temperature of the engine and synthetic oil has better properties under high temperatures comparing to regular oil.
- Idle running. This mode supposes shortage of air flow to sufficiently cool down the engine and like mentioned before the synthetic oil is better for such conditions.
Toyota corolla engine oil price
The average cost for a Toyota Corolla oil change is between 91 and 152 US dollars, the labour costs are estimated between 26 and 67 US dollars, while the parts are between 65 and 85 US dollars. The quote does not include taxes and fees.
Toyota corolla engine oil type
It is important to use the right oil in your car to meet the specifications of the Toyota manufacturer. Using the correct Mobil 1 product during routine maintenance and in accordance with your vehicle’s manual will not affect the Toyota manufacturer’s warranty.
Toyota has these recommendations for synthetic oil
Only Toyota vehicles that require 0w-20 synthetic oil (except the 2TR-FE & 3UR-FBE engines*) have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000 miles/12 months. (However, you should continue to check the oil level regularly and top it up if necessary. This will help your engine take full advantage of the synthetic oil.)
Vehicles where 0w-20 is an option on 5w-20 mineral oil (or 5w-30) will still require 5,000 miles/6 months oil change intervals even if 0w-20 oil is used.
For vehicles with 10,000 mile oil change intervals, the 5,000 mile maintenance interval has not been eliminated. Traditional 5,000 mile maintenance procedures (e.g. tire rotation) will continue to be required and fluid levels (e.g. brake fluid) will need to be checked and adjusted at this time.
Does the vehicle operation meet the standard criteria for “Special Operating Conditions” such as: When driving off-road, on dirt roads, towing a trailer, repeated short trips at 32˚ F or extended idling, the engine oil must be changed at intervals of 5,000 miles, regardless of the type of oil used.
*The 2TR-FE (4Runner / Tacoma) and the 3UR-FBE (Flex Fuel Tundra / Sequoia) are the exceptions to this new change interval program; these engines are not currently approved for the 10,000 mile interval. An oil change interval of 5,000 miles/6 months is still required for these vehicles. The Flex Fuel 3UR-FBE also requires an interval of 2,500 miles when operated with E85.
Best 0w20 synthetic oil for toyota
Toyota corolla motor oil recommendations
- Only vehicles in which 0w-20 synthetic oil is required have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000-miles/12-months. However, the oil level is to be checked regularly and oil is to top off if needed.
- Vehicles in which 0w-20 is an option to 5w-20 mineral oil, (or 5w-30), still require 5,000-mile/6-month oil change intervals, even if 0w-20 oil is used.
- In the case of vehicles with 10,000 mile oil change intervals, the 5,000 mile service interval has not been eliminated. The traditional 5,000 mile maintenance procedures (such as tire rotation) will continue to be required, and the fluid levels (such as brake fluid) will need to be checked and adjusted at this time.
- If the vehicle operation meets the standard criteria for “Special Operating Conditions” such as: driving off-road, on dirt roads, towing a trailer, making repeated short trips under 32˚ F, or extensive idling; the engine oil must be replaced at 5,000 mile intervals, regardless of what type of oil is used.
Considering the mentioned above you can see in what situation the synthetic oil is the better solution than the regular one. If your driving habits and environment are like described here, the synthetic oil may be a best solution. if not, compare the features of synthetic and natural oils to choose the oils to find out which is best in your case.
Oil changes are a very controversial topic. You will often find people out there insisting that oil changes have to take place every 3,000 miles or three months, although this is – often – no longer the case. If you are trying to determine whether you should use synthetic or conventional oil in your Toyota, we have some tips below just for you!
Toyota full synthetic oil
What kind of oil should I use in a Toyota?
A general rule that is usually true is that Toyota models use 2010 and newer synthetic oil and that older models generally use conventional oil. The best way to narrow this down to be absolutely sure is to go through your Toyota Owner’s Manual or contact a trusted service center, such as the Spitzer Toyota Service Center in Monroeville PA. For example, the Toyota Corolla 2017 recommends a viscosity of SAE 0W-20 with a grade of ILSAC GF-5 multigrade engine oil. It is also recommended in the manual that you should use original Toyota engine oil if you can. How to choose engine oil.
Toyota Corolla 10w-30 oil
What I need in engine oil is one of the most common questions we hear. We can understand why, because choosing the right car engine oil can be confusing. Using the engine oil finder will ensure that you get the right special oil for your car. Note that more than one type of oil can be recommended. For example, 5w30 engine oil and 10w40 engine oil may be suitable for your car. The oil finder system also tells you how much oil your car needs and how often you need to change your oil. It really takes away all the guesswork when it comes to choosing the right engine oil for your car. Experts recommend that you change your oil every 3000 miles. It is also possible that you will need to top up your oil between services. To avoid paying high garage forecourt prices, it’s a good idea to keep a 1 liter charge of oil in your trunk. When choosing the right oil for your car, you should not assume that cheap engine oil is of poor quality. Also, do not assume that the most expensive is the best engine oil. Choose the right special oil for your car and change it regularly.

This also includes protection against abnormal combustion phenomena such as slow pre-ignition, which are observed in modern turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDI) engines.
Pros:
- Developed for a high quality base oil using our revolutionary PurePlus Gas-to-Liquid technology in combination with a powerful additive system.
- Protects against the effects of low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in modern turbocharged engines.
- Provides better fuel economy that helps you drive an extra 550 miles per year compared to a dirty engine.
- Provides unsurpassed wear protection by preventing engine parts from coming into contact.
- Provides excellent piston cleanliness and keeps pistons up to 50% cleaner than required by the most stringent industry standards (based on results of engine testing to Sequence IIIH).
Cons:
- High price

Even if you don’t notice it after 75,000 miles, friction and high temperatures cause leaks, deposits and mud that shorten the life of your engine. That’s why you need the superior protection of MaxLife, the world’s first high mileage oil designed specifically to extend the life of your engine. With its advanced synthetic blend formulation, it offers increased wear protection, special seal conditioners, additional detergents and antioxidants that help maximize engine life. Its advanced formula can also be used in newer cars to prevent the causes of engine damage before they even begin. Pros:
- Seal conditioners regenerate aging engine seals to help stop and prevent oil leaks.
- Additional wear protection prevents future engine wear
- Additional cleaning agents help keep older engines cleaner by binding and removing sludge and deposits.
- Antioxidants help prevent oil damage and prevent engine sludge clogging and deposits from forming.
Cons:
- None
What should you choose?
Historically, synthetic blends have the advantage of a lower price compared to full synthetics. However, as the fully synthetic category matures, this price advantage has decreased. The use of the car engine oil category as a barometer for the popularity of synthetic blends shows that blends account for the lowest share of the category and blends have hardly grown recently.
Many motorists – and especially enthusiasts – want the best engine protection they can afford. And many of them come to the conclusion that the old saying “If something is good, more is better” applies to plastics. That’s why full synthetics are becoming increasingly popular.
