Are 9004 and 9007 Bulbs the same?
The 9007 and 9004 lamps are the same size and look very similar, but are not the same. The bulbs are wired differently, so the 9004 cannot be used instead of the 9007. The wires that are connected to the high and low beam circuits are not in the same position for the two lamp types.
9004 and 9007 bulbs are coded differently, so they are not interchangeable, but the higher light output of 9007 tempts some people to try to fit 9007 bulbs in headlights designed for 9004 bulbs. This is not an upgrade and is unsafe. It is important to use the specified bulb. Each headlamp is designed only for use with a type of headlight bulb. It could be a 9004, a 9007 or any other type. Headlights are optical instruments, and they depend on the filament being very precisely aligned and placed in exactly the right place to produce a light pattern with the right amount of light in the right places. If the filament is not properly aligned or placed because the wrong type of bulb is used, the headlight optics will not see what they expect and they will not be able to do their job. The result will be a damaged beam pattern that will not be safe for drivers to see and will cause glare to other road users.
